SOE invites members to consider volunteering to help NHS
Road transport engineers who have been furloughed from their regular jobs are among those who have been invited to help provide technical assistance with the field hospitals currently being set up in London, Birmingham and Manchester.
A message sent to SOE members says “We have been approached by the Royal Academy of Engineering, on behalf of NHS England, to help bring those with technical expertise into the role of Auxiliary Engineering Support. As well as the clinical and support staff required to provide patient care, these Field Hospitals will also need technical and logistical support.”
However, the SOE warns “This is not a decision to take lightly. You would be in proximity to those infected and may see upsetting scenes. We suggest that you discuss this request with your family and consider your own health before submitting the application.”
Interested engineers are asked to visit the RSA web site to see a job description and register their interest. Those who participate will be classified as volunteers, and will receive some financial compensation and, if needed, hotel accommodation. Training and supervision will be provided by NHS Clinical Engineering staff.
