The latest tippers to join the 22-strong fleet of William Thompson & Son (Dumbarton) have been specified with steel Multimaster bodies to meet the demand of the firm’s aggregates, landfill and quarrying activities.

The five new bodies, which have been fitted to Scania chassis in both 6x4 and 8x4 configurations, have smooth curved-floors designed for tipping loads such as sand, muck and topsoil.

Multimaster, which is built by Thompsons UK, is available in either steel or aluminium and is designed to handle heavier duty loads such as stone, crushed concrete and rubble.

Alastair Cant, William Thompson’s general manager, said: “Multimaster is a proven performer in our fleet, and complements our ultra - heavy duty Loadmasters perfectly. Running both body types also gives the fleet maximum the versatility to handle any type of job.”

The company, which operates out of its quarry near Erskine Bridge at the western end of the M8,  is currently engaged on intensive short haul work which means the new vehicles are loading and tipping over eight times per day.
