Dawsonrentals will fit a flashing sidelight systems on all trailers joining its rental fleet in a move to “enhance the safety, image and performance” of its customers.
The first sidelight systems will be installed on 40 Lawrence David curtainsiders that are in build for Dawsonrentals, and will use Axsend TrailerMaster junction boxes.
The box replaces the lighting junction box or plate on new trailers, which Dawsonrentals says is a "cost effective approach to opening up trailer safety enhancements" and other telemetry functions, such as electronic brake performance monitoring (EBPM), tyre pressure monitoring, lamp monitoring and GPS positioning.
Dawsonrentals truck and trailer managing director John Fletcher said while flashing sidelights are not mandatory its customers were keen to “get ahead of the game on safety”.
“Our reason for going with TrailerMaster is that we know their system is already capable of delivering more benefits,” he said.
“We see it as a simple way of introducing meaningful telematics to trailers. Rather like the early introduction of this type of technology to trucks, we expect it to start off relatively slowly, but then build as more operators start to see it as what it is: a safety and fleet management tool,” Fletcher added.
“Alongside the trailer sidelight system, we will shortly be introducing further safety related benefits into our tractor fleet,” he said.
The 40 Lawrence David trailers will be available to operators from mid-April.
