Scania launches new V8 engine, adds new 13-litre unit and five new models to its 9-litre range
Scania has increased its engine range with six new additions, as well as launching a new V8 for its R Series and S Series trucks.
A brand new 650hp version of the Scania V8 joins the 520hp, 580hp, and 730hp units already available. The new 650hp unit has a torque rating of 3,300Nm – the same as the 520hp and 580hp models – and, like the 520hp and 580hp, will use SCR-only technology, making them between 7% and 10% better on fuel.

In addition six new Euro-6 engines have been launched for the Next Generation of Scania trucks. The company’s 9-litre engine range now comes in five different variants, and the 13-litre range is bolstered by the new 370hp DC13-149 engine.
New 280hp, 320hp, and 360hp versions of the DC09 9.3-litre unit have increased compression ratios and cylinder pressures for more efficient combustion resulting in a fuel saving of up to 3%, while the two higher powered units (320hp and 360hp) will also be available as biodiesel engines.
Both units can run on either diesel or 100-percent FAME (such as rapeseed methyl ester) or any blend of the two fuel types.
