Heavy truck registrations fell across Europe last month, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA).
The drop came against the backdrop of a fall in all commercial vehicle registrations in the EU during March, although demand across the first quarter of 2018 remains positive despite the latest contraction.
Registrations of trucks 16-tonne and above fell 2.7% last month to 29,501 units with France the only major European economy to buck the trend.
In the UK heavy truck registrations for March decreased 4.3% year-on-year to 3,957 registrations. The German market slid 10.5% to 6,428 in comparison, while France grew 9.1% to 4,480 units registered.
It means that for the first quarter of 2018 the UK heavy truck market is down 7.8% year-on-year at 8,101 registrations while the EU as a whole is 2.9% ahead compared with the same period a year ago at 77,952 registrations.
