Any operators looking to improve payloads on tipper fleets should head to Hall A at Tip-ex and Tank-ex 2018 at the Harrogate Convention Centre between 31 May and 2 June and head to the Thompsons stand for the public reveal of an experimental prototype.
On show will be a Volvo FMX 8x4 with a new Thompsons steel body which the bodybuilder says incorporates what it describes as a radically different body design that will save at least 320kgs over a current lightweight steel body such as its Loadmaster Lite (pictured above).
Currently referred to as ‘Type R’ the prototype will be at Tip-ex 2018 to gage public reaction, with a promise of a reveal as to how the weight saving has been achieved.
Also on the Thompsons stand is an alloy bodied Scania eight wheeler set to join the fleet of Motherwell-based JC Bell Newhouse. Tip-ex 2018 sees the show debut of Thompsons Scotland, after it bought the Scottish branch of Weightlifter Group, Weightlifter Scotland, in July 2017.
Thompsons will also be using the show to reveal details of its 8x4 crane-mounted side tipper (pictured above), which can eject the whole payload in a single tip, either to the passenger side or the driver side of the vehicle.
Thompsons director Simon Shields explains: “We come to Harrogate for three main reasons. First, it’s important that as market leader we support the tipper industry generally.
“Second, we can talk to our customers both individually and collectively to more closely understand how the industry is evolving. Third, we are now seeing the show as an ideal opportunity to introduce new ideas of our own,” Shields added.
